Statistics from the US State Department for 2020, included in the Annual Report on International Child Abduction (April 2021) indicate that 246 new outgoing abduction cases were opened in 2020 and 201 cases were resolved. In total, the Office of Children's Issues handled 664 cases during the year. These numbers include cases involving both partner countries under the Hague Child Abduction Convention and non-Hague countries. A total of 185 abducted children were returned to the US in 2020, 150 from Convention countries and 35 from other countries. These numbers represent a decrease from 2019 (the previous annual report is available here), when 485 new outgoing abduction cases were opened, and 220 children were returned, including 160 from Convention countries and 60 from other countries. The reports do not include statistics on incoming child abductions.
